We’re looking for bright, caring individuals to join our staff at Lennon Recovery House.

Overview of Lennon House: Lennon Recovery House Association Inc. (Lennon House) is a nonprofit charity with the purpose of providing a safe space and home atmosphere for individuals recovering from substance use and co-occurring mental health disorders. The Lennon House model of care is a holistic approach to recovery and provides residents with a long term home, six months to one year, of consistent support to help them build the skills and motivation they need to have sustained recovery when re-integrating back into everyday life. Lennon House is an abstinence-based environment and will offer Hazelden Publishing’s evidence-based Living in Balance program.

Lennon House Fundraising Person

Lennon Recovery House is seeking a computer savvy, motivated individual with experience in fundraising. General duties will be filling out grant applications available through government and other organizations that donate to nonprofit charitable organizations; campaigning to raise money and donations for Lennon House. The right person may design promotional materials and increase awareness of our organization’s work, goals, and financial needs.

Specific Duties

  • Research prospective donors
  • Create a strong fundraising message that appeals to potential donors
  • Identify and contact potential donors
  • Organize an event that will lead to soliciting donors
  • Maintain volunteers in fundraising procedures and practices
  • Specialize in face to face interactions with donors who can give large amounts.
  • Plan an annual Lennon House fundraiser
  • Be skilled in writing grant proposals

Work Schedule

  • Mon. to Fri. Thirty-seven and a half hours a week
  • May work additional hours at fundraising events
  • Salaries to be negotiated depending on work experience
  • Valid driver’s license required

Education, Qualifications

  • Must be eligible for an EI Work placement program or Career Development Program
  • High school or equivalent
  • Knowledge in recovery from addiction and mental health challenges
  • Understanding of fundraising
  • Pleasant personality
  • Work well with others
  • Good communication and organization skills

Lennon House Peer Support Worker

It is our firm belief that each resident is personally responsible for their own actions and their own sobriety. Therefore the Peer Support staff will come alongside the residents in their recovery journey to support and guide residents during their stay at Lennon House while they undergo programming and acquire the knowledge, skills and abilities required to successfully transition to community living. The Peer Support Worker will also help prepare residents to live independently through teaching basic life skills.

All employees are required to sign a confidentiality agreement and must be discreet and discerning when working with residents. A high moral standard of work ethics will be required at all times.

General duties

  • Establish trusting relationships with residents.
  • Maintain a harmonious balance within the residence.
  • Listen to and act upon residents’ concerns.
  • Escalate concerns and recommendations to management regarding residents. 
  • Work with residents to complete their in-house training program.
  • Write Daily Reports.
  • Complete other tasks necessary to support residents (as determined by management).
  • Teach basic life skills, such as creating and maintaining successful interpersonal relationships, resolving conflict, obtaining and maintaining employment, completing government forms, and living within a budget, meal planning and cooking, etc.
  • Work with residents in regards to Living in Balance Program.
  • Be familiar with and abide by the Ethics and Lennon House rules as outlined in the Staff Handbook.
  • Make recommendations to management on issues pertinent to resident behaviour and transition needs.
  • In absence of management, call emergency services if required.

Position availability: 

  • Full time permanent; part time permanent and casual.

Qualifications

  • Grade 12 or equivalency.
  • Must have minimum 2 years recovery from addiction and be currently active in a recovery community.
  • Extensive knowledge of addictions and recovery process, including knowledge of community recovery resources and location and time of Island recovery meetings.
  • Good oral and written communications skills, computer keyboarding skills, good record keeping skills.
  • Ability to work well with people in need. Ability to work in a team environment. Ability to learn new programming.
  • Ability to lead a Group session, and/or 12 Step Group (in house) meeting.
  • Help in assisting resident transition by helping them make plans to transition back in the community, such as finding employment, writing resumes, finding housing, etc.
  • Able to assist in garden work or kitchen if needed in the context of working alongside the resident in a supervisory and encouraging role.
  • Criminal Records Check with Vulnerable Sector check required.
  • Driver’s license. Please note that Lennon House is in a rural area approximately 20 minutes from Charlottetown. This means that employees will need to drive in winter driving conditions to get to and from work and that emergency services’ response time will be longer than if the residence was in Charlottetown.
  • Specialized training – Peer support workers will be required to successfully complete the Peer Training Program. Non-Violent Crisis Intervention is a requirement for all staff. This training will be provided free of charge to all potential employees.
